2 Chronicles 32 · Grade 4
An Arm of Flesh
Read and Think
After Hezekiah's faithful acts, Sennacherib king of Assyria invaded Judah. Hezekiah prepared wisely. He stopped the springs so the enemy would find no water, repaired the broken wall, built towers, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
He set captains over the people and encouraged them. Be strong and courageous. He told them not to be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria or his great army, for there was a greater one with them than with him. An arm of flesh is with him, but Yahweh our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.
Sennacherib's servants mocked Yahweh and wrote letters claiming no god could save from Assyria. Hezekiah and Isaiah prayed and cried to heaven. Yahweh sent an angel who cut off the mighty men of the Assyrian camp, and Sennacherib returned home in shame. Later Hezekiah was sick and prayed, and God gave him a sign. When his heart became proud, he humbled himself, and wrath did not come in his days.
