2 Chronicles 30 · Grade 4
Gracious and Merciful
Read and Think
Hezekiah and his leaders decided to keep the Passover in the second month, since the priests were not ready in the first. Letters went out from Beersheba to Dan. Children of Israel, return to Yahweh. Do not be stiff-necked. Yahweh your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you if you return to him.
The runners passed from city to city through Ephraim and Manasseh, but people laughed them to scorn. Nevertheless some humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem. In Judah the hand of God gave them one heart. A great assembly gathered and removed the foreign altars.
Many from the north had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the Passover. Hezekiah prayed for them, and Yahweh listened to Hezekiah and healed the people. They kept the feast with great gladness, then decided to keep another seven days. Since Solomon there had been nothing like this in Jerusalem. The priests blessed the people, and their prayer reached heaven.
