2 Chronicles 3 · Grade 5
A Place of Meeting
Read and Think
The temple rose on Mount Moriah, the place where Yahweh appeared to David at Ornan's threshing floor. Many readers also connect Moriah with the place where Abraham offered Isaac (Genesis 22:2). The Chronicler links this house to God's mercy and to the promises given to the fathers.
Solomon built with the finest materials. Pure gold covered the walls, the beams, and the doors. Precious stones were set for beauty, and the walls bore carved cherubim. The most holy place was a perfect cube of twenty cubits, overlaid with six hundred talents of gold.
Two cherubim filled the most holy place, their wings touching wall to wall. A veil of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen separated it from the rest. In the New Testament, the veil of the temple was torn in two when Jesus died (Matthew 27:51). The way to God was opened.
