2 Chronicles 27 · Grade 4
Steady Faithfulness
Read and Think
Jotham's chapter is short and quiet. He began to reign at twenty-five and ruled sixteen years. He did right in Yahweh's eyes, following the good example of his father Uzziah. He learned from his father's mistake and did not enter Yahweh's temple. Yet the people still did corruptly.
Jotham was a builder. He built the upper gate of Yahweh's house and strengthened the wall of Ophel. He built cities in the hill country of Judah, and fortresses and towers in the forests.
He fought the king of the Ammonites and won. For three years the Ammonites paid him silver, wheat, and barley. The reason for his strength is given clearly: Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before Yahweh his God.
