Faithfulness in Hiding

Name Date

Read and Think

Ahaziah reigned only one year. He walked in the ways of Ahab's house, for his mother Athaliah was his counselor in doing wickedly. After his father's death, members of Ahab's family became his advisers, to his destruction.

He took their advice and went to war with Joram of Israel. When Joram was wounded, Ahaziah went to visit him. God had anointed Jehu to cut off the house of Ahab, and Ahaziah was caught up in that judgment.

Then Athaliah seized power and set out to destroy all the royal offspring of Judah. But Jehoshabeath saved baby Joash. She was King Jehoram's daughter and the wife of Jehoiada the priest. She hid him with his nurse in a bedroom. He stayed hidden with them in God's house six years while Athaliah reigned.
