A Covenant of the Heart

Name Date

Read and Think

After the victory, the Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded. He told Asa that Yahweh is with His people while they are with Him. If they sought Him, He would be found; if they forsook Him, He would forsake them. He reminded them that in hard times Israel had turned to God and found him.

Azariah urged them to be strong, for their work would be rewarded. Asa took courage. He removed the idols from the land and repaired the altar of Yahweh. Many people from Israel came over to him when they saw that Yahweh was with him.

In the third month they gathered at Jerusalem, offered sacrifices, and entered into a covenant to seek Yahweh with all their heart and soul. They swore it with a loud voice and with trumpets. All Judah rejoiced, for they sought him with their whole desire, and he was found by them. Asa even removed his grandmother Maacah as queen because of her idol.
