2 Chronicles 10 · Grade 3
Kind Words
Read the Story
Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to make him king. Jeroboam and the people said Solomon had made their load heavy. They asked him to make it lighter, and they would serve him.
Rehoboam asked the old men who had served Solomon. They told him to be kind to the people and speak good words, and the people would serve him forever.
But Rehoboam left the old men's advice. He followed the young men and answered the people harshly. So the king did not listen, as God had said through Ahijah. The northern tribes turned away from David's house.
Memory Verse
“They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.””
