A King Who Asked Well

Name Date

Read and Think

Second Chronicles begins with Solomon set firmly as king. Yahweh was with him. Solomon gathered the leaders of Israel and went to Gibeon. The tent of meeting that Moses made was there, and the bronze altar that Bezalel made stood before it.

Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings. That night God appeared and said, Ask for what you want me to give you. Solomon thanked God for his kindness to David. Then he asked for wisdom and knowledge, for who could judge so great a people?

God was pleased, because Solomon had not asked for riches, honor, or long life. He granted wisdom and knowledge, and he added riches and honor beyond any king. Solomon had many horses and chariots. Silver and gold became common in Jerusalem.
