1 Samuel 30 · Grade 3
Strength in the Lord
Read the Story
When David and his men came to Ziklag, the Amalekites had burned it. They had taken captive the women and everyone in it, but they killed no one. David and his men wept until they had no more power to weep. David's two wives were also taken.
The people spoke of stoning David. But David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God. He asked Abiathar to bring the ephod and inquired of the Lord. The Lord said, Pursue, for you will surely overtake them.
Two hundred men were too faint to cross the brook Besor, so four hundred went on. They found an Egyptian in a field and gave him bread, water, figs, and raisins. He led them to the raiders. David recovered all. Some wicked men did not want to share with the two hundred. David said, They shall share alike.
Memory Verse
“David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.”
