1 Samuel 19 · Grade 3
Escape Through the Window
Read the Story
Saul told Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Jonathan delighted in David. He warned David to hide, then spoke good of him to his father. Jonathan said David had not sinned against Saul and had risked his life to defeat the Philistine. Saul listened and swore David would not be put to death.
When war came again, David fought and won. But an evil spirit came on Saul, and he threw his spear at David, who slipped away. Saul sent messengers to watch David's house. Michal told David he must escape that night. She let him down through the window.
Michal put the teraphim in the bed with goats' hair at its head and said David was sick. David fled to Samuel at Ramah, and they stayed at Naioth. Saul sent messengers three times, and each time they prophesied. Then Saul went himself, and the Spirit of God came on him too.
