Cedars from Lebanon

Read the Story

Hiram king of Tyre had always loved David. When he heard Solomon was king, he sent his servants to him. Solomon sent back a message. David could not build God's house because of the wars all around him. But now God had given rest on every side.

Solomon said he would build a house for the name of the Lord. He asked Hiram's men to cut cedar trees from Lebanon, because no one knew how to cut timber like them. Hiram rejoiced and blessed the Lord for giving David a wise son.

Hiram's men brought the logs down to the sea and floated them in rafts. Solomon gave Hiram wheat and oil each year. God gave Solomon wisdom, and there was peace between the two kings. Solomon sent workers to Lebanon in turns. Others cut large, costly stones for the foundation.

Memory Verse

“Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.”
