1 Kings 11 · Grade 3
A Divided Heart
Read the Story
King Solomon loved many foreign women. God had told Israel not to marry them. When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart to other gods. He built places to worship false gods. He did not follow the Lord fully, as David had.
God was angry. He had come to Solomon twice. God said He would tear the kingdom away. He would give it to Solomon's servant. But for David's sake, He would wait until Solomon died. He would leave one tribe for Solomon's son.
God raised up enemies against Solomon. They were Hadad of Edom and Rezon of Damascus. Jeroboam was one of Solomon's officers. The prophet Ahijah met him. Ahijah tore a new coat into twelve pieces. He told Jeroboam to take ten. God would give him ten tribes. Solomon reigned forty years and then died.
Memory Verse
“When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as the heart of David his father was.”
