1 Corinthians 8 · Grade 3
Knowledge and Love
Read the Story
In Corinth, food was often offered to idols at temples and then sold in the market. The Corinthians asked Paul if Christians could eat it.
Paul said that an idol is nothing. There is one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ. Some believers knew this well. But others were new in their faith, and eating that food troubled their conscience.
Paul said knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. A believer should not use his freedom in a way that hurts a weaker brother. Paul said that if food made his brother stumble, he would not eat meat.
Memory Verse
“Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.”
